INDICATIONS
Asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive, pulmonary disease (COPD), influenza.
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Productive cough with thin clear or frothy sputum, Chills and mild fever, Aversion to cold, Absence of sweating, (anhidrosis), Generalised body aches, Shortness of breath, dyspnoea, wheezing, chest oppression, Pale tongue with a thin white coat that may also be greasy, Floating pulse.
ACTIONS OF THE MAIN HERBS
Ephedra herb is used orally in formulas to treat common cold, asthma, bronchitis, oedema, enuresis, epistaxis, infantile diarrhoea, allergic rhinitis, urticaria. It has been shown to have bronchodilator, antipyretic, diaphoretic and diuretic actions. In addition it is a cardiac stimulant and increases cardiac, cerebral and muscular blood flow. Cinnamomum twig is used orally in formulas to treat common cold and influenza, palpitations, precordial chest pain, cough, arthralgia, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, dysuria and oedema. It has been shown to have the following cations: antipyretic, diaphoretic, vasodilator, anti-spasmodic, analgesic, cholagogue, antibacterial, hypoglycaemic and diuretic.

CAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS
Avoid stimulants such as coffee, tea, guarana and cola containing drinks. Caution for those on anti-coagulant medications (i.e. Heparin, warfarin or aspirin). Caution in patients taking drugs that affect the central nervous system, antihypertensives, antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g. quinidine, procainamide, disopyramide).
