Dang Gui Su also known as Angelica Dang-gui Formula
TCM ACTIONS
Nourishes the Blood, activates the Blood and dispels stasis, tonifies the Qi and strengthens the Spleen.
INDICATIONS
Irregular menstruation, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, anaemia, post partum weakness, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic skin conditions (e.g. carbuncles, urticaria, senile pruritus), blood loss. Also used as a general tonic for women.
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Pale or sallow complexion, dry eyes, dry lustreless skin and hair, postural dizziness, blurred vision, brittle nails with pits or ridges, menstrual disorders (e.g. irregular menstruation, oligomenorrhoea, amenorrhoea) poor memory and concentration, paraesthesia (tingling) or numbness of the extremities, poor sleep or insomnia, pale dry tongue, thready, pulse that may also be weak and choppy.
ACTIONS OF THE MAIN HERBS
• Angelica polymorpha root is used orally in formulas for both men and women as a blood tonic, also to improve blood circulation, and as a muscle building blood tonic for men. It is most commonly used as a women’s tonic to build the blood and to regulate the menstrual cycle. It has been shown to have immune stimulant, vasodilator, antianemic, cardiotonic, antilipemic, and hepatoprotective actions.
• Atractylodes rhizome is used orally in formulas to treat a wide variety of digestive disorders as well as respiratory, nervous and rheumatic disorders. It is frequently used in tonic formulas as well as formulas to treat threatened or habitual miscarriage. It has been shown to have hepatoprotective, anticancer, hypoglycaemic, immune stimulant and antibacterial actions.
DOSAGE & COURSE OF TREATMENT

CAUTIONS
Caution for those on anti-coagulant medications (i.e. Heparin, warfarin or aspirin). If taking antibiotics, allow at least 90 minutes before taking this formula. Not to be taken during pregnancy.
