TCM ACTIONS
Warm-tonifies the Kidney Yang, enriches the Kidney Essence, tonifies the Qi and nourishes the Blood.
INDICATIONS
Impotence (erectile dysfunction), loss of libido, premature ejaculation, infertility.
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Loss of libido, or low libido, Premature ejaculation, Impotence (erectile dysfunction), Fatigue, Nocturnal polyuria (nocturia), Intolerance of cold, Pale tongue, Deep and weak pulse.
ACTIONS OF THE MAIN HERBS
Epimedium herb is used orally for impotence, involuntary ejaculation, weak back and knees, arthralgia, mental and physical fatigue, memory loss, hypertension, coronary heart disease, bronchitis, chronic hepatitis, polio, chronic leukopenia, viral myocarditis, and as a tonic and aphrodisiac. It has been shown to have androgenic, immune stimulant, cardiotonic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antitussive, hypotensive, antibacterial and antiviral actions. Panax ginseng is used orally in formulas to treat heart failure, shock, debility due to chronic illness, hemorrhagic diseases, organ prolapse, anaemia, diabetes, various lung diseases, some skin infections, palpitations, cognitive decline, impotence, infertility, premature ejaculation, and enuresis. It has been shown to have adaptogenic, CNS modulating, cardiotonic, hypertensive, hypoglycemic, and immune enhancing actions.
DOSAGE & COURSE OF TREATMENT
8 - 12 pills, 3 times daily, half to one hour away from food. In severe cases and in the early stages of treatment (first 3 – 4 weeks) the dosage may be increased to 16 pills, 3 times daily (or 24 pills, 2 times daily). Course of treatment: 2 to 6 months, or ongoing at lower dosage.
CAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS
Caution for those on anti-coagulant medications (i.e. heparin, warfarin or aspirin), cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin), oral hypoglycaemic agents, insulin and phenelzine. Contains Panax ginseng; do not take caffeine containing beverages (e.g. tea, coffee, cola, gaurana) or radishes concurrently with this formula.
