TCM ACTIONS
Soothes the Liver, activates the Blood and dispels stasis, nourishes the Heart and calms the Spirit.
INDICATIONS
Premenstrual syndrome with emotional volatility, breast pain and mild dysmenorrhea. May also be used for male patients with stress related mood disorders, such as irritability, mood swings and sleep disturbance.
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Premenstrual syndrome, Emotional volatility or depressed mood, Breast pain, Mild dysmenorrhea, Sleep disturbance, Forgetfulness, poor concentration, Poor appetite, Pale tongue, Wiry and Thready pulse
DOSAGE & COURSE OF TREATMENT
3 - 4 capsules, 2 - 3 times daily, In severe cases and in the early stages of treatment (first 1 – 2 cycles) the dosage may be increased by 50% – 100%. Course of treatment: 3 - 6 months. Safe to use long term.
CONTRAINDICATIONS & INTERACTIONS
Avoid coffee, deep fried foods, high glycemic foods, saturated and ‘hydrogenated’ fats. Caution for those on anti-coagulant medications (i.e. Heparin, warfarin or aspirin) and uterine stimulants (e.g. oxytocin). Caution in patients taking drugs to treat Parkinson’s syndrome (e.g. levodopa). Contains Glycyrrhiza, which potentiates prednisone and corticosteroids by prolonging steroid biological half-life; caution in patients with hypertension.
